Many people who have had car collisions and need to file a car accident compensation claim, don’t have all the facts which may make the process a little harder. This is because most people don’t have car wrecks on a regular basis so are not familiar with the procedure.
Thinking Ahead
Most people don’t like to think negatively, but the fact is, if you drive a vehicle on a regular basis, you will probably be involved in an car accident even if you are the safest driver in the world. The odds are against you being able to avoid an auto collision in the 40 plus years that you operate a motor vehicle.
Assuming that you are not badly injured in the crash and will have the ability to use the following items, you should consider keeping them in your car at all times:
- A digital camera, or if you carry a cell phone with a camera use the built in one of the phone. These will come in very handy to take photos of the vehicles involved in the collision.
- Paper and pens or pencil to take down the information of the other drivers, pedestrians, or potential witnesses to the mishap.
- All of the information on your auto insurance. Many places require that you keep this information in your car at all times to drive legally.
- A small recorder if you would like to record any conversation you might have, of course with the permission of the other party.
What To Do With This Information
This information that you have gathered along with the police report of the accident and any other facts that you have obtained, will be used by your legal representation in negotiating with the financially responsible party (most likely the insurance carrier of the person at fault for the accident) a settlement of your car accident compensation claim.
